Space to Love

Space to Love

consider
the arms of young
and fresh lovers entwined and
efficaciously blind, with grasps
effusive stretching such a shine
to clasp, at last, and grab and grasp
and almost tear the skin from another
resembling those of a mother,
cradling the sorrow strung about her
lost son’s new head, clutching the soft
hazel hairs of love’s shadow, as if her
womb itself had sealed the eyes shut
…a world underneath such lids
where lovers simply love
and mothers never suffer

imagine
the touch from one son
animating intangible dreams
of love’s victims as lights
sewn with tact as though
arms, finally comforted without
consequence, as the celestial lid drapes over
revealing a world where
the stars cradle the mothers
and lovers
only love
each other
